Visioneering Team
"Where there is no vision, the people perish"
A group of Wellspring Church members recently joined together as a Visioneering Team charged with examining the major ministry needs of the church and to develop action plans with goals and objectives. Four major ministry focus areas were identified and individual teams were formed to assess: Discipleship, Fellowship, Service, and Evangelism. Each team used information gathered from a survey of the congregation to help provide direction as each team began developing their team's goals and objectives. This is an excellent opportunity for a church member to accept increased responsibility for a particular area of ministry in a very visible position of responsibility. A short summary of the responsibilities of each team follows:
Discipleship Team: The goal of the Discipleship Team is to "educate the believer to maturity in Christ." The team proposes developing a strategy that incorporates the discipleship needs of the church, develop resources for study in small groups or by individuals, and to develop opportunities for believers to develop leadership and ministry skills.
Fellowship Team: The goal of the Fellowship Team is to "build a healthy Christian relationship between people, to bond together on a common purpose and devotion, so each one of us feel part of God's family." The team determined that we require regular, church-wide social events, use small groups to facilitate contact with those absent, ill, or in emergency situations, and to schedule events of general interest to the community.
Service Team: The goal of the Service Team is to "establish and develop flexible, active, loving ministries which are available to all church members and designed to meet the needs of the church and community through Christ-like service. The team will look to establish teams, such as facilities and benevolence, that further the church's ministry activities.
Evangelism Team: The goal of the Evangelism Team is to "intentionally reach people in our community for Christ, using every modern means of communication available to us." The team set goals that include including all member in evangelism training, use church-wide bi-annual outreach events, and use available media resources for evangelism. In addition, the team will ensure that evangelism training is integrated across all church activities, including Life Groups, Quick Start, Youth, and Children's groups and synchronize activities with the church staff.
The Visioneering Team has recommended that each Team be led by a Director responsible for:
- Identify, communicate, and coordinate across teams and church staff the many ministry opportunities available to their team.
- Accept responsibility for enlisting and training workers and developing an action plan for their team
- Exercise leadership and communication skills and a commitment to Wellspring Church
- Provide opportunities for believers to develop leadership and ministry skills.
- Establishing a regular assessment process of the team's ministry activities
- Develop a strategic plan for the team that is consistent with church and other team goals.
